Q: Where is Botley CLT looking to develop new homes in Botley?

Anywhere in the Botley parish can be a candidate for housing development (as per the Botley CLT model rules). Land Trusts are really well suited to small sites (circa 10+ homes), as they view profit from a development as giveback to the community and not as a shareholder payout. Which means a lower viability number (e.g. 5% profit versus 20%+ that a large developer would be wanting), can unlock sites that another developer may overlook.

If you are a landowner and want to develop a community led scheme then please get in touch at contact@botleyclt.org.uk

Q: What is BCLT’s view on active travel? That is getting around on foot and by bike.

BCLT is pro cycling and having pedestrian friendly networks for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Q: Will I be able to purchase a home?

Yes. Some of the homes in a BCLT led development would be available to purchase. However, others could a joint ownership with Botley CLT and an owner occupier.

Q: Will Botley CLT be the affordable homes provider?

No. Botley CLT will partner with an affordable homes provider(s). As these organisations have the expertise and organisational capacity to run and manage these properties. Called Registered Providers (RP’s), they are regulated by the government.

Q: How energy efficient will the homes be?

Very efficient, due to the construction material used and how they are built. Using future methods of construction ensures a high build quality and a lower carbon footprint in construction. An example of a Botley CLT build partner is Greencore Homes.

Q: Will I need to live my life differently?

No. Lights will switch on when you need them and the home will be cozy as demanded. But, depending on a homes location and type it may have an EV charge point. The current plan is all homes have solar generation which improves resilience; are carbon neutral (depending on the build material, even carbon positive). Thus reducing Co2 and offering a lower energy bill.

Q: What community facilities will be created?

It depends on the scale and type of development.

However, Botley Community Land Trust can be an asset owner and run and manage community assets for the benefit of the Botley community. Examples of the type of asset BCLT could consider owning are:

  • Energy Schemes – e.g. community solar, ground source heat, anaeorbic digister
  • Community buildings – e.g. retail, cafes, pubs
  • Take on the responsibilities of development companies – including the green spaces and public spaces/ammenities.
